OK, even though today is JANUARY 5th, "I'm saying Happy Birthday Son!" to Dylan because in Australia, it IS January 6th! Here are some pics my Mom sent me today. Following is her email too. Scroll down on the "Jumping" post too, I added some pics.

"We are in Melbourne, just waking up. We have had a fun few days. I think the last note was the day Dylan bungied. He has worn his t shirt every day. I finally got it off him and washed it.
The second day in Queenstown we were up early and rode up the Dart River valley with a group of others. We got to Glenorchen and were briefed on what the day was going to be like. They outfitted all of us in wet suits, wet booties, fleece, jackets and life vests. Then they took us by jet boat up the river. the jet boat was invented here so that the farmers could navigate the shallow rivers on their sheep ranches. It can function in as little as 4" of water.
Our boat had a cover on it, so we didn't get wet when the pilot did 360 turns in the water. He took us upstream a bit and then left us on the river bank. We met a bunch of river guides there and learned how to pump up the Funyaks. This is a cross between an inner tube and a kayak/canoe. We divided into small groups and luckily, the guide-Sophi-was with us. She hooked two boats together-she and Dylan in one, Dad and I in the other. We felt a lot safer doing this.
We then started floating down stream. Dylan learned a little about canoe navigation. I learned how to paddle.
We floated down a bit with no disasters and then beached, and pulled the canoes up the river bank to a little inlet. The water was very cold when it got in my boots! After a short break, we got back in the boats and paddled a short way up stream into this gorge that had been created by the water. Very narrow, very steep, very beautiful.
After that we enjoyed lunch on the beach before boarding the boats and heading downstream again. In our group was another family from Kansas. The mom and dad were in one boat and the kids, 2 boys (13,16) and the girl (15) in the other. We were a little ways ahead of them on the river when they came up to a log and tipped over, dunking both the boys into the water. The dad called out to Sophi that the kids had tipped and she really went into action. We beached our boat very fast, she grabbed a rope, told the boys to swim and got them both ashore. Then the girl, who had been holding onto the boat, swam over to us. The current was strong in that part of the river, which is what pushed the boat into the log.
After the kids were safe, Sophi went to work getting the boat unstuck from the log. It wasn't easy because of the way the river was holding it against the log. Finally after about an hour, a jet boat came up river and the pilot and the guide were able to help Sophi and the dad put a rope around the end of the canoe and pull it from the log. It took the jet boats power to do it.
That whole episode took about an hour and 40 minutes to resolve. After that we hooked all 4 boats together and floated back to the end. All of us were glad to be on land and finally get the wet clothes off. My feet were so glad to be in my socks with dry shoes.
We were going to take the rescheduled helicopter ride to Milford Sound, but again the rain over there was creating problems, so we just headed back to the hotel and had dinner watching the Return of the King.
Yesterday we flew from Queenstown to Christchurch and had a very brief visit in the city before boarding the flight to Melbourne. I had forgotten how pretty this city is. It brought back a lot of memories. We walked from our hotel, over to the area where we stayed years ago and had dinner by the river. Then back to the hotel and bed. We were all tired.
Today, Dylan's birthday, we are visiting a sheep ranch. Tomorrow we head north to the beach.
I finally got a connection with my laptop, so I'll try to send some pictures with this note. We are having fun. Dylan has been great"
